DELTA®-COOL 28
PCM for use as thermal mass in glass facades. Smart and environmentally friendly temperature management for innovative building enclosure design. Creates comfort and saves energy.
This incombustible and long-lasting phase change material has its melting point at around 26 °C. It becomes effective at a temperature range where the comfortableness of most people is noticeably affected.
In the temperature range between 26 °C and 30 °C DELTA®-COOL 28 features an especially high energy density; it is able to store 75 Wh/liter. During the phase change from solid to liquid the material absorbs approximately 1.2 kWh/m² of thermal energy. This effect of energy storage without perceptible temperature increase is called latent heat storage.
Through the use of DELTA®-COOL 28 the interior temperature is reduced by 4 °C to 6 °C during summer months, which contributes to occupant comfort and energy savings through reduction of cooling loads. During winter months the PCM has the effect of a "solar tile stove" on the inner side of the glass facade, and contributes to a reduction of the heating load by up to 150 kWh/m² per year.
Since DELTA®-COOL 28 functions based on clean solar energy and thermal mass, this innovative technology presents a valuable contribution to environmental protection and genuine 'green building'.
Polycarbonate containers filled with PCMs (salt hydrates). The containers are heat-sealed.
DELTA®-COOL 28 is ideal for use in living and office space. The thin element is applied within the glass facade and functions without maintenance or servicing. An additional prismatic glass pane reduces the passage of high-angle solar irradiation during the summer and provides additional protection against overheating.
